Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet from Game Freak and the Pokémon Company introduced lots of new Pokémon species to the long-running franchise, many of which have left lasting impressions. The latest entry into the Pokémon saga introduced the all-new Paldea region. There the game's player characters are tasked with once again filling up a Pokédex with a range of bizarre and intriguingly designed little monsters with which they can compete in Pokémon battles. While the core of the game remains largely the same, its creative designers have not run out of ideas for new Pokémon species.

The roster of characters is truly impressive, and while some of these Pokémon are harder to catch than others, players will get the opportunity to add all of those incredible concepts to their own roster. Redditors have been taking to the social media site to talk about their favorite designs and ideas, with some leaving the kind of impact that classic Pokémon would have made back in the earlier games. These new species thus left enough of an impression to make it onto a trainer's consistent team.

10 Annihilape

Reddit user Hellion998 was the first to jump into the discussion surrounding newcomers to the Paldea region. They said that Annihilape had a "Great design, fantastic move-set, AND STATISTICS. The design alone sells it for me because, IMO, Primeape does not have the best of design." The fact that Annihilape thus makes an improvement on a previous entry is a bonus.

There have been no shortage of monkey-themed Pokémon in the past and Annihilape adds to that list. With brilliant defense stats and the combination of both Ghost and Fighting types, Annihilape is quite the intriguing inclusion, which usually leaves an impression on the battlefield thanks to its wide array of genuinely diverse attack types.

9 Toedscool

Although it's always great to see new Pokemon species which appeal to players because of their stats in the field, Reddit user Lethalhobo135 was impressed by one design because of its personality. They said of Toedscool that, "When i first saw it I was like 'well that's kinda dumb' then I got close and he did that goofy... run while I was wheezing laughing. I love em now."

Resembling a Tentacool in its design, this mushroom-shaped Ground and Grass type Pokémon is utterly bizarre. Those tiny legs are completely adorable and so while Tentacool might not be too effective in battle until it changes into this Pokémon's weird evolution, it's hard not to find this new species endearing and perhaps even an improvement on the design it drew inspiration from.

8 Klawf

Pokémon designs can be most effective when they draw from real-world imagery. It's fair to say there have been many aquatic, crab-looking entries into the Pokédex but Vecend made their own case. They said the Pokémon that left a lasting impression on them was, "Klawf, that guy hard carried me early game." Clearly, the character was very dependable.

Surprisingly, it is not a Water type but rather a Rock type, which gives it an array of attacks not usually seen within this kind of design choice, even among Generation IX Pokémon. Without an evolution to speak of, when looking across the Pokémon that could be placed on a team for the earlier gym battles, Klawf will be an impressive choice in its scale and adaptability, every time.

7 Clodsire

Everyone has an unlikely favorite that ends up impressing them despite the unassuming looks of the character. That's the case here, with punkscolipede going into further detail. They said, "dude, I wasn't even that serious for Clodsire and it just ends up the mvp permanent resident of my team." That is certainly tall praise.

A Clodsire is a Poison and Ground type Pokémon, another unusual combination that demonstrates the versatility of the creation and what it could bring to the team. Not only are the visuals of the character cementing it as one of the cutest Pokémon of its generation, but a Clodsire can genuinely hold its own as a much better evolution of a Wooper in Pokémon lore.

6 Smoliv

The very name of this next Pokémon is completely absurd, but it sums up the design excellently. It's a smol olive! God_of_Shenanagin eloquently puts their thoughts to the page on Reddit saying, "As soon as I caught a Smolivs, I was smitten, but when I fully evolved it to Arboliva, it had made it's way onto my top 5 list."

The Grass and Normal type Pokémon sees its abilities largely based on the classics of that natural combination. From a battle perspective, Smoliv doesn't bring a lot to the table in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet in terms of its offensive moves, with players potentially placing their best bets on evolving the Pokédex entry. However, it's cute, hilarious to watch and leaves a big impression for uncommon reasons as a trainer.

5 Iron Hands

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet's fascinating new species have taken advantage of previous designs from past games. ChiralKiwi's suggestion is a perfect example of that. They said, "Iron Hands. Something about seeing a gang of robotic Hariyama from the future zooming after me in Area Zero made the game for me." Their science-fiction visuals are definitely a rarity for a Pokémon title.

Intimidating and strong from both a defensive and offensive standpoint, the Fighting and Electric-type Pokémon arguably holds the potential for some of the most exciting moves in the game. Hariyama was always a fan favorite from earlier Pokémon generations, so to create a spinoff that might actually surpass the original is a good indicator as to why it's leaving a big impression.

4 Glimmora

Oftentimes Pokemon designs manage to balance an intriguing array of bonuses, from unique type combinations to a visual style that stands out and a name that sits in the Pokedex with ease. kdebones said, "Glimmora more so then any other mon this gen caught my eye and I just really like it. Rock/Poison is unique only to it and an Ultra Beast, it has one of the best set up abilities in game."

With brilliant special abilities and the premise that it can poison almost anything, it would always be a worthy addition to a gym team. Even the strongest Pokémon trainers from each generation would probably be taken aback by the sheer beauty of the Glimmora as well, with Game Freak indicating that just because a Pokémon looks fragile, it doesn't mean it can't pack a mean punch.

3 Mabosstiff

Another Pokémon that takes its cue from a real-life animal, dog-based designs will always be popular, and Scarlet and Violet didn't fail to deliver. Reddit user AmmisaLove went through their journey saying, "Mabosstiff is definitely my favorite new Pokémon. I got a Maschiff early on & wasn't sure, but I'm now in love with him!"

The Dark type is an evolution of the cheeky Maschiff and is pretty competent when analyzing its attacks. This Scarlet and Violet Pokémon would be first up for Ash to catch, as the character feels like a natural fit for the trainer's laid-back team, an appealing element that seems to resonate with many players. Indeed, it's probably the looks of the canine companion that left the largest impression.

2 Tinkaton

Occasionally a Pokemon speices adds something to the lore of the universe that is totally original. That's the case here. Reddit user MSSTUPIDTRON-1000000 said, "Tinkaton, when the leakers first mentioned a "hammer fairy" I was intrigued and as more the time passed more I become hyped and the result surpassed my greatest expectations!"

From a narrative perspective, Tinkaton actually hunts down some flying types, with its comically oversized hammer, explaining why there isn't aerial assistance with flying taxis. It's a Fairy type and is among the best Steel-types in Pokémon Scarlet and Violetas well, thus owning a healthy array of attack combos that wouldn't traditionally fit alongside one another.

1 Nacli

Cult favorite Pokemon sometimes take the player community by storm and for Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet, the example is Nacli. Tashomire said, "It looks like a mario power up," while another Reddit user added that "i love it cus it looks like a Pokémon if you imported it straight into Minecraft, just how blocky it is."

With the genius name including the periodic table's title for salt, NaCl, it feels as if a lot of thought has gone into a design that quite honestly looks as if very little work was placed into it. As a new Rock type, Nacli appears to truly meet every aspect of that Pokémon categorization to perfection, even if it isn't as powerful as its brethren.
