The Sims 4 was released in 2014 and has spawned over a dozen expansion packs, as well as even more game packs, kits, and stuff packs. The simulation game is constantly evolving and expanding, as well as being subject to major patch updates regularly, making it easy for Sims players to miss multiple - and particularly useful - features in their gameplay.

EA announced that infants, a new life stage, would be released as part of a major game update in early 2023. Given the fact that toddlers are notoriously difficult to care for in demanding time and care from parent Sims, many players could benefit from learning tips on how to build their skills and reach new levels and achievements in the game, all within a shorter timeframe and less effort.

Taking a Thoughtful Shower

Hygiene is the fulfillment of a necessary need for Sims, as being filthy and having body odor will leave Sims miserable and repel other Sims during social interactions. The shower is a quick fix to fulfill the hygiene need, but many players may be missing out on a boost that can be gained from showering.

Players can choose a "have a thoughtful shower" option on any standard shower in the game. The shower will cause Sims to receive inspiration points, and potentially leave their overall mood as "inspired/very inspired". Building skills while inspired will cause Sims to learn more quickly and get to the next skill level faster.

Having a Tiny Home

Tiny homes are available in The Sims 4: Tiny Living stuff pack. As well as having furniture objects suitable for smaller homes, the pack also allows Sims to reap various benefits from having their home lot set as a "small" or "tiny" home if it meets the dimensions to qualify as one.

Setting a home as a tiny home unlocks special "lot perks". One feature, called "you got the touch", allows Sims to gain skills at faster rates - and even more than double the speed. Purchasing Reward Traits

Sims will occasionally gain whims throughout the day, which are minor wishes that will boost a Sims' mood and overall satisfaction. When creating a sim, players can choose an aspiration for their sim to work towards that involves a series of goals to meet.

Fulfilling a Sims' whims and aspirations will grant Sims with reward points, that can be collected and spent at the aspiration reward store, located in the Sims' panel in the gift symbol. Players also purchase skill-based rewards, such as the gym rat one for faster fitness skill game, or others like "night owl" - where Sims learn skills faster at night.

Brushing Teeth

Players can get their Sims to brush their teeth by clicking on any sink. The action will give Sims a quick hygiene boost (although not nearly as much as showering) and can help improve the overall mood of a sim. Often, Sims will become "confident" after brushing their teeth.

The confident mood will allow Sims to gain skills faster thanks to their elevated good mood. For more social-based skills, such as mischief or charisma skill, a confident mood will help social interactions go over more successfully. Brushing teeth is a quick action, especially compared to showering, but can give players some huge benefits.

Buying Moodlet Potions

When Sims have over 500 satisfaction points, they can purchase moodlet potions in the reward store. These can be gained through completing whims and reaching milestones as they complete their sim's aspirations. These potions will appear in their inventory and will automatically set the selected sim's mood to match the potion of the player's choosing.

Players can buy mood potions that can make Sims confident, focused, or inspired - which can make Sims gain skills faster. As well as these specific moodlets, players can purchase potions that solve needs, such as the mood solver potion, which will max out all of a sim's needs, for a maximum good mood, which can make learning skills a faster process.

Sims Traits

As well as multiple traits being available in the base game, each of The Sims 4 game and expansion packs come with extra traits that can be chosen during the create-a-sim stage of a new Sims game. While traits can largely guide a sim's mood in response to actions, as well as shaping their likes and dislikes, they can also help with skill gain.

Certain traits will mean that Sims will do well when learning related skills. For example, an athletic sim will do well when learning fitness or a creative sim will learn the painting skill quickly. Picking these traits at the beginning stage of creating a sim will make a game start on the right foot when it comes to learning skills and progressing through gameplay.

Using Certain Social Interactions

Some skills in the game can be gained through a Sims' social interactions with other Sims - particularly the mischief or charisma skill. While Sims can learn about these skills by practicing speeches in the mirror or reading skill books, social interactions are faster and seemingly make the skill bar go up faster.

Certain social interactions are made especially to boost said skills of the selected skill. For example, the sunglasses symbol - the icon of the charisma symbol - appears in interactions such as "compliment outfit" to show players that it has charisma skill gain. Much of the "funny..." section of social interactions is designed to boost the mischief skill.

Working Out

As every Sims player will know, working out is the fastest way to boost fitness skills. Specialized types of fitness skills, such as the dancing skill, also has options for specialized dance workouts that boost a Sims' skill. What some players won't know, however, is that working out can help with non-fitness skill gain.

Exercising will often leave Sims with the "energized/very energized" moodlet. This elevated good mood will make Sims more receptive to new activities and quickly level up their skill. While being energized helps massively with fitness skill gain, the mood also helps across all skill gain.

Lot Traits

All Sims lots, whether residential or public, can possess traits that affect the experience and overall vibe of the lot. While some traits just trigger events - such as the earthquake trait - others can help any Sims living on or visiting the lot can help enhance skill gain.

Some lot traits are designed to help gain certain skills similar to the vibe of the trait. For example, the "homey" trait boosts skills gained in cooking, baking, and gardening. Sims players can use cheat codes to unlock every locked trait that is exclusive to certain apartments or have more than three traits on a lot.

Finding A Mentor

Sims can become a mentor to other Sims, which will help the targeted sim gain skill faster than if they attempted the activity alone. The mentor trait can be bought for 1000 points at the trait rewards store, and the selected sim can mentor on any skill they have a level 10 (or any other completion number) of.

Some skills do not require mastery of the talent to be a mentor. The fitness skill allows Sims to mentor other Sims that are working out with relatively low fitness skills required to unlock the interaction. The mentor interaction happens highly frequently in gyms in Sims worlds.
